Just as adults have their own special dental needs, so do children.  And it's important that children see the dentist early on -- while they're still toddlers -- so they'll feel good about smile care.

From birth to eighteen, we're here to take care of all your child's dental needs.

Prevention is everything
The best approach to dental care is to prevent problems from happening.  We'll help protect your child's smile with regular cleanings and protective fluoride treatments Dan tooth sealants.  We'll also teach your child good dental hygiene habits.  We spend a lot of time teaching kids how to take care of their teeth, and how to brush and floss the "tooth bugs" away.

Sippy-cup or nursing bottle mouth
This is caused by frequent and lengthy exposure to liquids containing sugars (milk, formula, fruit juice) and can destroy your child's teeth if not caught in time. It's best to let us check your baby early, before the first birthday.

Problems with pacifiers or thumb-sucking
These can push your child's teeth forward, and cause an overbite or buck teeth.  But if we catch the problem early, chances are we can sometimes correct it before it hurts your child's smile.

Development
A number of conditions could interfere with proper development of your child's second teeth.  Extra teeth, missing teeth, a narrow jaw, or a misaligned bite are just a few of the problems that can affect  your child's dental development.

Orthodontics
If your child just needs minor adjustments for a straighter smile, we can usually help.  If more extensive care is needed, we'll refer you to an orthodontist who can give your child a smile to be proud of.

Fun for kids, affordable and convenient for parents
We truly love children. We never want to see your kids go without the dental care they need.  That's why we have four convenient offices.  And if your children ever have an emergency, we can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Please don't hesitate to call.

And you'll be glad to know that we accept most major insurance, as well as military fee for service.  Our staff will be happy to file all the paperwork for you, so you don't have to hassle with it. Uninsured?  You can charge care to your Visa, Master Card or Discover card. Or you can take advantage of our interest-free financing.

Did you know?

  • Your Child's First Tooth is at Risk for Decay
  • Tooth Decay in Your Child is Completely Preventable

Recognition

Q: How can I tell if my child has signs of decay?
A: The early signs are not easily recognizable.  That is why it is so important for your child to be seen bay a pediatric dentist.

Later stages of decay can be seen and include:

  • Discoloration on the back of the front teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Bleeding gums
  • Stained teeth

Prevention

Q: What can I do to prevent tooth decay in my child's mouth?
A: The key to prevention is understanding that your baby's first tooth is at risk for decay.

Some tips to help keep your child's teeth healthy:

  • Clean teeth daily with a soft brush
  • Discontinue use of a bottle after the first year
  • Limit frequency of snacks, juices and drinks containing sugar
  • Never put your child to sleep with a bottle filled with anything other than plain water
  • Make sure your child is receiving the proper amount of fluoride

  • Take your child for regular dental visits starting at age one

Responsibility

Q: When should I take my child for his first dental appointment?
A: The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends all children be seen by their first birthday.

Some things your dentist may want to discuss at your child's first visit:

  • Nutrition as its effects on your child's teeth
  • Your child's specific fluoride needs
  • Weaning your child from the bottle
  • Techniques for proper brushing

Treatment

Q: How will my child be treated?
A: With love, understanding and care.  That is our specialty.

As pediatric dentists, we have advanced training in the care of young children.  We work with your child to make their dental visits as pleasant as possible.

You can help prepare children by avoiding negative terms like "shot, needle or hurt."  Be positive.  Use words like clean, healthy.  Our office is designed to make your child's dental visit fun and rewarding.
